Greetings from Hopewell Valley

Design Statement

Our Ox is a celebration of Hopewell Valley: farmland, river, people and history. Inspired by vintage postcards, the design has a friendly spirit featuring unique Hopewell Valley images.

There’s a QR code in the middle of the letter side of the postcard; scan it and it takes you to our website ‘greetingsfromhv.com’. Our website includes the stories behind the pictures – for example, why is the railroad important to the development of Hopewell Valley? What is the Frog War? And who are the Lenni Lenape and where were their settlements?

As artists and teachers, we think this design is a great way to share our enthusiasm for this wonderful place where we live, and to share the stories of the people and places that make our Valley unique and cherished.

This ox was awarded Honorable Mention by our panel of Stampede Judges, and is owned by its sponsor.

About the Artist

Kit Greener and Kyle Wille have been friends since their boys met in preschool (oh, so many years ago!), but when they serendipitously met at a plein air painting workshop, they decided that their painting styles complemented each other. And when the opportunity of painting an Ox arose, and with their mutual love of art and history, it seemed like a natural fit. They are happy to report that creating the Ox has been one of the best things they’ve ever done.

Post Ox, Kyle is painting canvases and murals on commission and is one of three partners establishing Creative Connections Play School, a Reggio-inspired preschool opening in Hopewell in Fall 2014, while Kit is working on large abstract pieces to rebalance herself, and enjoying the College search adventure with her daughter. Thank you to the Council for dreaming of, and making the Oxen herd a reality!
