Art Talk: Artemisia Gentileschi

Join us and the Pennington Public Library on Wednesday, September 25, at 7pm via Zoom for a lively discussion on Artemisia Gentileschi, the most famous female painter of the 17th Century. Although trained by her father, she went on to have a successful, independent career, only to fall into obscurity after her death in 1656. She did astonishing work, mostly portraying courageous and rebellious female protagonists. Come and hear what inspired her— her story is as dramatic and powerful today as it was 400 years ago.

About our Presenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she taught English, art history, and World Languages and Cultures. Now retired, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues.
