Hopewell Valley Arts Center Talk, Afghanistan Through the Lens of Steve McCurry, by Bonnie McCurry V'Soske

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Off-Broadstreet Theatre for this fascinating and very personal presentation by Bonnie McCurry V’Soske. More than 100 people filled the theatre on a Monday evening. If there are other topics you’d like to hear about from the HV Arts Council, please let us know at events@hvartscouncil.org.

The Hopewell Valley Arts Council and the James A. Michener Art Museum are delighted to bring this special presentation, Afghanistan Through the Lens of Steve McCurry, to Hopewell’s own Off-Broadstreet Theater on Monday evening, September 26, 2016 at 6pm.

This talk will be of interest to both photographers and non-photographers as Bonnie McCurry V’Soske, sister of world-famous photographer Steve McCurry and President of McCurry Studios, explores how photography has helped the world to understand the story of this complex, war-torn country.

Ms. V’Soske’s presentation coincides with an exhibition of Steve McCurry’s photos from Afghanistan, now on view at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA through October 23, 2016. This exhibition has captured national attention and was named one of the twelve “must-see exhibitions of the summer” by USA Today.

PARKING: Please note parking is on-street in Hopewell. Please leave adequate time to find a space and walk to the theatre.

UPDATE, 9/23: Extend your evening! Gallery 14 Fine Art Photography has announced they will stay open late on Monday evening, after Ms. V’Soske’s presentation, and welcome audience members to come see the Gallery’s current exhibits. Gallery 14 is located at 14 Mercer Street in Hopewell, about a 6-minute walk or a 2-minute drive from the Off-Broadstreet Theatre.

Steve McCurry has been one of the most iconic voices in contemporary photography for more than thirty years, with scores of magazine and book covers, over a dozen books, countless exhibitions around the world, and perhaps one of the most recognizable photos of our generation—the young green-eyed Afghani girl that appeared on the cover of National Geographic—among his credits.

She was an educator in public and private schools for forty years and now serves as the President of the Steve McCurry Studios. Her new book about Steve McCurry is slated for publication in 2017.
